We went shopping one day before Christmas,
With the malls filled with crowds of people,
We were weary, sat down, and beside us sat
An old man who was weak and feeble.
The man looked ill, well stricken in years,
A pitiful sight to behold.
I looked to the Lord for the help I needed,
And it was not in silver or gold.
I passed the time of day and acknowledged him,
And then asked him if he was alright,
He said he was depressed, as the crowds sped by,
Of getting better, he had long lost sight.
I told him he needed Jesus,
To put peace into his heart,
He said he didn’t want to hear of religion,
Believing in God, he wanted no part.
I said, “Neither do I want religion,
But I certainly believe in God,
I’d loved him from being a child of nine,
I gave him my life, and by me He’s stood.”
The Bible says. “There’s no other name
But Jesus by Whom we’ll be saved,”
He paid the price in Blood on the Cross.
For my sins and yours, He paid.
I told the man I’d made my mistakes,
“I’m not proud of my past!” I said,
But I ask God to forgive me my sins
Each night as I go to bed.
I told this man he needed peace in his heart,
And to ask God to forgive him too,
He listened, he said his name was “Clive,”
As I told him what to do.
He said he could sit there all day long,
And no one ever spoke to him,
There were thousands of people passing by,
And he felt the future looked grim.
I said I know what my destiny is,
When it’s time to say, “Adieu!”
And he too can have this peace in his heart,
My Saviour can save you too!
You don’t need to attend church for a hundred years,
Or read your Bible ten hours a day,
Just say, “God, if You’re there, forgive my sins!”
You’ll find depressions have all gone away.
He said again no one ever talks to him.
If he sat there all day long,
I told him we’d go and pray for him
If he’d repent, to God he’d belong.
I said we might never meet again
In this world, but you can now have a Friend,
Who’ll commune with you every day of your life,
And then in a world without end!
So, we left Clive in the hands of God,
Said if he’d say the sinner’s prayer,
He’d find a peace and joy in God.
And we’d all meet again up there.
It wasn’t by chance we sat by Clive this day,
We told him God sees him and God loves him.
As the thousands ignore this poor, lonely man,
He heard the Gospel News that would save him.
