“Behold, a virgin shall conceive,

And bear a Son, Emmanuel,

Wonderful Counsellor, the Mighty God!”

This prophecy of Isaiah the world did foretell!

In all the history of mankind.

A virgin never before God’s Son conceived,

And in all that followed this humble woman,

Never again such a virgin breathed!

To Mary, the mother of Jesus,

The angel came and said,

 “Hail! Thou art highly favoured

Among women, thou art blest!”

“For unto us a child is born,

Unto us a Son is given,

The government shall be upon His shoulder!”

God declared from the throne of heaven!

She bore the brunt of bringing forth

A “bastard” in men’s eyes,

And even Joseph hesitated

Before the truth he realised.

Mary carried a terrible burden

And fled to Elizabeth, her cousin,

Her child – John – leaped in her womb.

When Mary entered the room, so sudden!

Later, Jesus came to the Jordan

To be baptised by John,

When Jesus came up from the waters,

A Voice said, “This is My Beloved Son!”

The Spirit of God came down upon Jesus,

And rested upon Him like a dove,

The heavens opened and there God shows

His heart is a heart of purest love

Jesus came to bring salvation

To the lost of this world,

Not to condemn, but to save them,

Upon repentance – that is the word!

God brought Him forth from a woman –

The lowlier form of mankind,

The despised, the desolate, forsaken,

But God values women very high.

Mary is not to be worshipped,

Prayed to, or idolised,

She humbly bows at the feet of her Son,

As the Son of God, she’s realised.

She was a fallen woman, in sin,

And needs a Saviour, as we,

But God has chosen this lowly woman,

That the Glory of God in her we should see.

So let us value this woman

In the place God has caused her to be,

To be the mother of our Saviour,

Who alone gave His life for you and me.

Let’s rejoice at the birth of our Saviour,

In a cradle, in a barn, how lowly could He be!

But He’s saved us to the highest heights of heaven,

To be with Him for the whole of Eternity!
